Mohammed J. Kabir is a Bangladeshi-born American technologist, entrepreneur, and author who emerged as a prominent voice in the open-source software movement during the 1990s and mid 2000s. After moving to California, in 1990, he studied computer engineering at California State University, Sacramento. His first and only job was with a UC Berkeley startup called Berkeley Design, where he worked on Intel's MMX processor as a junior engineer. During his university years, Kabir became an early adopter and advocate of Linux, experimenting with its earliest distributions and recognizing the transformative potential of open-source technology well before its widespread corporate adoption.

Building on his technical expertise, Kabir became a prolific author, writing more than a dozen widely circulated books on Linux administration, web development, and server security. His publishing career began with *CGI Primer* in 1996 and expanded to include authoritative guides on Red Hat Linux, Apache web servers, and secure PHP development. These books became practical resources for a generation of system administrators and web developers, helping demystify complex open-source infrastructure and promote secure, reliable deployment practices in enterprise environments.

Kabir later transformed his technical knowledge into entrepreneurship by founding EVOKNOW, Inc., a California-based software company. Through EVOKNOW, he shifted his focus from technical publishing to building digital platforms and providing strategic technology leadership to businesses. Today, he continues to advise startups on software architecture, open-source integration, infrastructure, and digital transformation.
