Nusrat Haya Nisho

Nusrat Haya is an aspiring oceanographer and environmental researcher currently pursuing her studies in the Department of Oceanography at Noakhali Science and Technology University. Having recently joined NSTU, she brings a fresh perspective, strong curiosity, and a deep commitment to understanding and protecting marine and coastal environments. Growing up in Bangladesh, a country intimately connected to the Bay of Bengal, Nusrat developed an early awareness of how oceans, climate, and human communities are interconnected. This connection inspired her to choose Oceanography as her field of study and to focus her research interests on environmental sustainability.

Nusrat’s primary research interest lies in coastal and marine environmental science. She is particularly concerned with issues such as marine pollution, coastal erosion, climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems, and the health of marine biodiversity. Bangladesh’s coastline faces unique challenges including sea-level rise, salinity intrusion, cyclone intensity, and plastic pollution. Nusrat aims to contribute research that helps document these challenges and proposes science-based solutions that can support both ecosystem health and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

She believes that oceanography is not just about studying the sea in isolation, but about understanding the complex interactions between the ocean, atmosphere, land, and people. Her academic focus includes studying the physical, chemical, and biological processes of coastal waters, as well as how human activities such as fishing, shipping, and urbanization affect marine environments. She is especially interested in how data from oceanographic research can be used to inform policy, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable resource management in Bangladesh.

As a student researcher, Nusrat is committed to building strong foundational skills in scientific methods, data analysis, and fieldwork. She enjoys reading peer-reviewed journals, comparing different environmental models, and learning how to translate complex scientific findings into clear and actionable information. She values both laboratory work and community engagement, and hopes to participate in research projects that involve direct interaction with coastal communities to understand their experiences and needs.

Communication is central to Nusrat’s vision of research. She is passionate about science communication in both English and Bangla, and aims to make environmental knowledge more accessible to students, educators, and the public. She believes that raising awareness about ocean health is essential for building a generation that respects and protects marine resources. Through writing, presentations, and outreach, she hopes to contribute to environmental education in schools and local communities.

Collaboration is another key part of her approach. Nusrat is eager to work with faculty members, fellow students, and national or international research organizations on projects related to marine conservation, climate adaptation, and sustainable fisheries. She sees NSTU as a platform to develop her research skills, engage in interdisciplinary learning, and contribute to Bangladesh’s growing capacity in ocean science.

Looking ahead, Nusrat envisions a career where she can combine rigorous scientific research with practical environmental action. Her long-term goal is to contribute to projects that monitor coastal health, assess the impacts of climate change, and support sustainable development in Bangladesh’s coastal zone. She is motivated by the belief that protecting the ocean is essential for protecting people.
